Reflection for Memo

The memo is addressed directly to President Vincent Boudreau, acknowledging his title. Knowing his background in political science and focus on social equity, I tried to frame my argument around “student equity, mental wellness, and upholding CCNY’s mission as an inclusive institution,” directly appealing to his values. I also adopted a formal, respectful tone and provided logical arguments with citations. The central purpose of this memo is stated clearly in the opening and closing paragraphs that is requesting to reinstall the carpet in the prayer room. The sections that follow the opening paragraph are designed to support this goal. For example, the section on the consequences for students establishes why it is important to have the carpet in the prayer room and addressing concerns section provides solutions to the likely concerns raised by the administration without burdening the administration. I maintained a formal, respectful and solution-oriented tone throughout the memo. This can be seen through my direct address to the President, the use of higher level vocabulary such as “ Addressing the concerns”, and “revitalizing one’s brain,” and the organization of my memo. My piece is following the standards conventions of a professional memo, including the “TO:”, “FROM:”, “DATE:”, and “SUBJECT:” headers at the top. I gave proper headings for each section so it is easier to navigate and gave formal citations in the attachments.
